Odd Sandals houses an online biography to promote my freelance marketing/event management work and a blog to share some random writing.
I have tons of experience in marketing (both corporate and in the arts), event management, project coordination and other creative endeavours – you can scroll down to read the ins and outs of my CV.
Currently working as a Marketing/Event Manager with creative regeneration agency Urban Foundry (Unit Nineteen, Uplands Market, 51.6 & other projects).
Since 2010, also employed as a part-time Project Officer for University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) looking after the Creative Bubble project. This is a joint initiative with Swansea BID that promotes student entrepreneurship via pop-up shops, performances & exhibitions. It also seeks to impact upon Swansea economically, socially and culturally.
Taught Arts Marketing to Performing Arts degree students and project managed Olion (Arts Council Wales/ESF £500,000 Reach the Heights initiative) – this involved working with a number of arts organisations to set up art based projects with young people who were NEET (not in education, employment or training).
1997 – 2004, Senior Account Manager, The Gate Worldwide (advertising agency), London
Worked on numerous advertising accounts including Legal & General, Investec Group, Welsh Development Agency, IFA Promotion, Universal Records and Scope. This involved managing the TV & radio commercials, press ads and direct mail requirements of clients. Highlights included spending time in South Africa to launch a TV campaign for Investec (the iconic zebra) and launching the ‘Time to Get Equal’ campaign for the charity Scope.
2:1 BA (Hons) Performing Arts at University of Wales Trinity Saint David (graduated 2011)
2:1 BA (Hons) History & English at Plymouth University (graduated 1994)
3 A-Levels from Gower College (or Gorseinon College as it was then)
9 GCSEs from Bishopston Comprehensive School
Very computer literate – big social media and gadget geek.
Having lived in both Swansea and London, I tend to veer between the ethos (and vibe) of both. Essentially though I’m a do-er.
A lover of yoga and vegan food, The Cure and quality cocktails.
The small print…
To leave you with a professional image of me, some random jobs have been omitted; a stint in Argos, M&S, brand promo-girl work (including some embarrassing costume work), acting in low budget films, ‘blink and you miss me’ appearances in Gavin & Stacey, music videos and other TV productions. There has also been a bit of waitressing and a week of being a not very scary (or competent) Glastonbury Festival security guard.
